Stella Olivier - Herbaceous Hammer
Influenced by her practice-led dissertation on search engine archives and how keyword generated search results impact the fine art landscape, Stella built Herbaceous Hammer by editing and merging historical objects found on Google Arts and Culture. Due to Google's algorithm, a porcelain vase was displayed amongst hammers and this inspired a surreal flower-tool time lapse.
Stella Olivier is a multimedia artist that specialises in postdigital forms of landscape and still life art. Influenced by historical mimesis, Cottagecore and other internet phenomena, the artist combines imagery from her home to artefacts borrowed from the virtual collections of museums to create surreal, escapist scenes.
Stella's practice is bound up in historical fiction, archival art and chance led processes, she virtually merges artefacts to obtain collages and animations that are digitized yet conserve an antique aesthetic.
