As part of our ongoing curatorial strand Make Work With Us, artist Kevin Hunt will work with students and staff to produce a series of new sculptures for his solo exhibition at KARST.

Working in collaboration with MIRROR as part of ‘Make Work With Us’, Kevin Hunt will fabricate a collection of functional sculptures at Plymouth College of Art together with students and technical staff, produced within our fantastic Craft, Design and Fabrication workshops.

These new sculptures will form a key part of Kevin’s first solo exhibition (opening at KARST on 30th June 2022). Bringing together several strands of his practice in a gallery setting for the very first time (including wall-based sculpture, architectural intervention and small functional objects) whilst also stepping out of the gallery and into the hands of the people of Plymouth. Major new bodies of work rooted in his lived-experiences and interactions within municipal post-war architecture are explored from a Queer perspective.

Forming a close working relationship with a select group of students and skilled technicians to enable the artist to work with materials and techniques he hasn't been able to before, through this project we will establish a reciprocal learning situation where Plymouth College of Art students benefit as much as Kevin does from the process and experience of making the work with us.

The exhibition at KARST is curated by Matt Retallick. It is generously supported by the Elephant Trust and MIRROR through our 'Make Work With Us' programme.

Kevin Hunt (b.1983) is a Liverpudlian artist and lecturer. He lives and works in Salford / Manchester.
