Kopf is a studio pottery in Plymouth, Devon established in 2022 by artist Jackson Sprague. For Buy Art South West, Kopf Pottery is offering a selection of glazed stoneware.

As an artist, Jackson’s sculptural work has often gestured towards the home and rituals associated with it. He started Kopf Pottery to make functional and decorative homewares that not only reference the intimate drama of everyday life but can also become part of it. Kopf Pottery is oriented towards crafting usable objects to be enjoyed for how they feel, look, and work as unique but commonplace vessels.

For me, they carry personal associations that build through the process of making. I'll begin to remember details of what's been around me, things I've been affected by but not really noticed until they come back into focus with the shape of a cup, a jug handle, or the glaze pattern on a fruit bowl. Sometimes, these autobiographical fragments register in the naming; for instance, the mug called 'Eve in Berlin' recalls a visit with my wife to the Bauhaus museum and the chiffony jumper she was wearing that day.

In addition to making and selling wares, Kopf Pottery is now offering one-to-one introductory sessions on the fundamentals of throwing and glazing. Please get in touch via the online shop for details.
